Omens

Two archaeologists stumble upon a sacred tomb in Giza, Egypt, and learn a long-forgotten history that explains the mystery behind Ancient Egyptian pyramids. From tyranny, to clairvoyance, to mind control, the twists and turns of this high-concept story will not fail to surprise.


EXT. ANCIENT EGYPTIAN PYRAMID SITE – DAY

LEE and AIDEN, male archaeologists in their late 30s, walk through the desert. Weighed down by equipment, they slow their pace as they approach a worn-down pyramid, then stop and stare in awe. They immediately get to work. Aiden scrapes the pyramid’s stone base for a sample as Lee circles it, inspecting the structure. He pushes on a large piece of stone and it moves inward.

LEE
Hey, think we’ve got a tomb?

Aiden stands up to help Lee push the stone open. Inside, darkness is all that can be seen.

AIDEN
Guess we’ll find out.

He grabs a flashlight from his backpack and slowly starts to enter; Lee does the same.

INT. PYRAMID HALLWAY – DAY

The archaeologists enter into a small hallway, the walls of which are covered in hieroglyphs. Aiden gets out a camera and takes several pictures as Lee goes on. Once he reaches the end, he peers into the next room and drops his flashlight in surprise. Aiden glances over.

LEE
Whoa…get over here Aiden. You’re gonna want to see this.

He hurries over and the two stand in wonder as they look into the entrance of the next space: a tomb with two mummified bodies lying in the center.

INT. ANCIENT TOMB – DAY

Lee speaks into an audio recorder.

LEE
Date: March 7, 2015. Location: Giza, Egypt, 12 miles South of the Giza Plateau. Discovery of what appears to be an ancient tomb housing the remains of two highly respected individuals…both female.

Aiden walks slowly toward the mummies; a large OPAL STONE is placed in between them. He takes a cloth from his back pocket and reaches to pick it up. Right as he touches it, the stone begins emanating a blinding light. He gazes into it for a moment before falling to the floor.

FLASHBACK:
INT. ROYAL PALACE, ANCIENT EGYPT – DAY
TEXT: Cairo, Egypt – 2550 BC

PRINCE ANU, a tall young man with dark brown hair, is sitting beside the throne of his father, the PHARAOH. The Pharaoh is a taller, older version of his son, eyes glimmering with determination and darkness. He sits at his throne, listening intently to his vizier RAVI, a small, energetic man.

RAVI
…no, your majesty. I assure you the spell will not waver, even slightly. (Lowers voice) Not as long as we continue to protect its source.

He looks down and glances up for a second at Prince Anu, as if nervous or embarrassed to be in his presence.

RAVI
Perhaps we should continue this conversation over a glass of red wine before supper, your majesty?

The Pharaoh looks over at his son, who doesn’t seem to be paying attention, momentarily before answering.

PHARAOH
Certainly. Would you care to join us, Anu?

The prince looks over wearily.

PRINCE ANU
No. Father, you know my viewpoint on the issue and besides, I’m feeling unusually tired.

PHARAOH
No matter. Get some rest now.

Ravi and the Pharaoh exit. Prince Anu goes to the window and gazes out with sadness and pity on his face.

EXT. DESERT – DAY

Hundreds of ANCIENT EGYPTIAN CIVILIANS are constructing the beginnings of pyramids in the hot sun. They’re all dressed in white, moving mindlessly with the same blank stare painted on all of their faces. No one says a word. LAYLA, a 21-year-old female with light brown hair and green eyes, becomes the focus of the scene.

INT. PALACE BASEMENT – DUSK

GUARDS clothed in black accompany lines of civilian slaves, who are moving into an underground room in the Royal Place.

GUARD #1
Attention all! The gracious Pharaoh, in all his divinity, has offered you a portion of his palace. We will serve bread before you resort to your quarters; file in quickly now…

Layla and KIT, a small female in her early 20s with short black hair are the last two people in line. Suddenly, they both snap out of their mindless demeanors and look at each other in panic and confusion. Kit grabs Layla’s arm and quickly hurries her out of the room.
